1. Introduction

WinV is a macOS application for clipboard management. Your data privacy is our core principle.

This Privacy Policy explains how WinV handles your data. In short: WinV stores your clipboard history locally on your Mac. Your data never leaves your device.

2. What Data Does WinV Collect?

WinV collects the following information:

Clipboard contents: Everything you copy (text, images, links)
Source app: The name of the app you copied from (e.g., "Safari", "Mail")
Timestamps: When you copied each item
Pin status: Which entries you've pinned

⚠️ Important: WinV does NOT collect:

No tracking or analytics data
No IP addresses or geolocation
No telemetry or crash reports
No unique device IDs
No data about your browsing history

3. Where Is Your Data Stored?

All your data is stored locally on your Mac.

WinV stores your clipboard history in your local filesystem at:

~/Library/Application Support/ch.luoja.WinV/

This data is never transmitted to servers, cloud services, or third parties.

4. iCloud & Universal Clipboard

If you have Universal Clipboard enabled (an Apple feature for iPhone sync), Apple can see your clipboard contents to sync them between your devices. This is outside WinV's control.

You can disable Universal Clipboard: System Settings → General → AirDrop & Handoff → toggle off "Handoff between Macs and iCloud devices"

5. Third-Party Frameworks

WinV is built with SwiftUI and AppKit, which are Apple frameworks. These frameworks do not collect data.

WinV contains no analytics libraries (e.g., Sentry, Amplitude, Firebase) or tracking code.

6. Permissions

WinV requires these macOS permissions:

Accessibility: So WinV can read and monitor your clipboard + enable auto-paste with Cmd+V
Clipboard access: To fetch the current clipboard contents

What WinV does NOT do: It does not read your files, emails, passwords, or other sensitive information.

7. Data Sharing

We never share your data with anyone.

WinV does not contact any external servers. Your clipboard is never uploaded to analytics, backup services, or cloud providers.

8. Data Security

Your WinV data is only as secure as your Mac itself. We recommend:

Keep your macOS up to date
Use a strong password for your Mac account
Enable FileVault encryption (System Settings → Security & Privacy)

9. Data Retention (How Long Is Data Stored?)

Your clipboard history is stored until you manually delete it or reach the retention period limit.

You can always:

Delete individual entries (right-click → Delete)
Clear entire history (right-click → Clear All)
Uninstall WinV (all data is deleted)

10. Your Rights (GDPR)

You have the following rights under GDPR/FADP:

Right to Access: You can request what data is stored about you
Right to Deletion: You can request the deletion of your data
Right to Portability: You can export your data in a standard format

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be published on this page.
